Prion 2006 : Torino, Italy, 4-6 October 2006

On behalf of the European Network of Excellence NeuroPrion, we are happy to inform you that on the heels of Paris 2004 and Düsseldorf 2005, the international conference "Prion 2006" will be held in Turin, Italy, on October 4-6, 2006.

Torino is a magnificent old city in the north-western part of Italy, close to the French border. It has its own airport and also has a direct train link to Malpensa, the main airport of Milan. To discover Turin one has to search through twenty centuries of history. Walking through its streets is a bit like visiting an open-air museum. From Roman Turin, represented by the Palatine Gates, to the Baroque face of the town, designed by great architects such as Guarino Guarini or Filippo Juvarra, the city's ancient aristocratic imprint remains strong. The city boasts some excellent museums such as the Egyptian Museum, which is the world's oldest and second in terms of importance, the Mole Antonelliana, which is the symbol of the city and home of the new National Film Museum, and the Royal Armouy, that hosts one of the world's richest collections of arms and the famous selfportrait of Leonardo da Vinci. Besides to the mountains, that will host the Olympic Games in February 2006, the area around Turin offers unique opportunities. The hilly regions of the Langhe and Monferrato feature numerous castles and characteristic villages, and are renowned for gastronomic tradition and excellent wine. Fall is picturesque season and the best time for a culinary "grand Tour"!

The scientific program of "Prion2006" will include state-of-the-art lectures, oral presentations selected from abstracts and poster sessions on the classical themes of NeuroPrion network (i.e., prevention, control, treatment, management and risk analysis of prion diseases), and discussions centered on basic research. This event will provide a great opportunity for scientists from all over the world to share their thoughts, findings and progress, in this attractive and interesting setting.
