Tenure-track senior faculty position - University of Texas (Closing date 31st March 2008)

The George and Cynthia Mitchell Center for research on Neurodegenerative disease at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston is seeking outstanding candidates for the following position:

A tenure-track senior faculty position at the level of Associate/Full professor for a scientist with established career in the field of Prion disease research. The ideal candidate should have an interest on understanding the molecular mechanisms implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease and a well established position in the field with a strong record of scientific publications and funding. Experience and interest in translational research will be a plus. An attractive recruitment package of salary, start-up funding and newly renovated space will be offered.

The Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative diseases is implementing the facilities and expertise to become a world leader Institution in basic science, translational research and clinical investigation in Brain diseases associated to the Misfolding, aggregation and cerebral deposition of proteins. Rich opportunities exist for interactions with Centers of Scientific Excellence in Aging, Structural Biology, Chemical Biology, Infectious diseases and Molecular Science. The University is well-equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and a wide variety of core services, including: animal transgenics, behavioral studies, histology, combinatorial chemical synthesis, mass spectrometry, membrane protein crystallization, NMR, protein expression and purification, molecular biology, X-ray crystallography and optical imaging microscopy.

A junior faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and creative scientist with some postdoctoral experience in the field of Prion diseases. The selected applicant will be responsible for leading the daily research activities and supervision of students and technicians in the laboratory of Dr Claudio Soto.
