Joint Programme of Activities

The diagram representing the joint programme of activities of NeuroPrion

The primary objectives of NeuroPrion are to structure and integrate the efforts of the main European prion research teams in order reduce the fragmentation of the research and to establish a durable leadership that will protect and improve human health.

NeuroPrion has identified areas where greater coordination of research would be beneficial and others where novel, applied research is needed. Based on these assessments, NeuroPrion has implemented a joint programme of activities which is built on the following four research pillars: PREVENTION, TREATMENT, CONTROL and RISK.

Each research priority has been subdivided in more specific themes:

Prevention

  • Decontamination
  • Diagnosis
  • Differentiation of strains

Treatment

  • Development of new drugs
  • Definition of new therapeutic targets

Control

  • Human and animal surveillance
  • Human and animal banks of tissue

Risk

  • Risk Assessment
  • Risk Factors
  • Risk Management
